Everyone in the automation industry knows that indexing dividers achieve intermittent motion at fixed workstations, while servo motors can achieve positioning at any workstation based on actual usage needs. So, why do engineers prefer indexing dividers? To understand this, we need to clarify the differences between dividers and servo motors, as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages.

An indexing divider is a high-precision rotary positioning device with high rotary repeatability. Its structure includes an input shaft, cam, needle roller bearing, output turntable, housing, etc. The working principle is that under the action of the drive source, the input cam mechanism drives the output turntable to achieve indexing motion. Because the surface of the cam structure is mainly a complex sinusoidal processing surface, when it contacts the roller cam of the turntable, it realizes the mechanical action of movement and stop. Therefore, the intermittent motion realized by the divider is completely mechanically completed, and its stability is superior to any other non-mechanical device.
A servo motor is an engine that controls the operation of mechanical components in a servo system. It is an indirect speed changer for auxiliary motors. Servo motors can precisely control speed and position, and can convert voltage signals into torque and speed to drive the controlled object. The rotor speed of the servo motor is controlled by the input signal and can respond quickly. In the automatic control system, it is used as a driving element, with characteristics such as small electromechanical time constant, high linearity, and high starting voltage. It can convert the received electrical signal into an angular displacement or angular velocity output on the motor shaft. It is divided into DC and AC servo motors. Its main characteristic is that when the signal voltage is zero, there is no rotation phenomenon, and the speed decreases at a constant speed with the increase of torque. DC servos require brush commutation, limited speed, additional resistance, and easily produce worn micro-materials, while AC servo control is more complex, the driver parameters need on-site adjustment of PID parameters, and the electronic circuit is more complex.
From the perspective of torque of dividers and servos, indexing dividers are greater than servo motors. Of course, when large torque and high precision are not required, servos still have certain advantages. The cost of servo motors is higher than that of servo motors. In terms of operational stability, indexing dividers are superior to servo motors. The specific application depends on the actual selection requirements of the automation system. Of course, some experienced engineers will utilize the advantages of dividers and servo motors, using servo motors to drive automatic dividers, mainly applying the high-speed stability of dividers and the precise positioning of servos.
In summary, indexing dividers have obvious advantages over servo motors, so they are favored by engineers in practical applications.

End of Heat | Summer not yet felt over, the time has come for new autumn
Chushu is the fourteenth solar term in the "Twenty-Four Solar Terms" and the second solar term of autumn. In the "Monthly Commands · Compilation of Seventy-Two Phenomena," it is said: "Chu means stop; the heat stops here." Chushu is neither as dynamic as Grain Rain or White Dew, nor as distinct as the Beginning of Spring or Beginning of Summer. Just like the traditional character for "Chu" (處), which contains the component "処 (chǔ)", meaning "to walk slowly." To truly appreciate the unique beauty of Chushu, one must slow down and savor it carefully.
Starting today, we enter the last phase of the hottest period known as the "Final Dog Days." This signifies the transition from summer to autumn, with the heat gradually cooling down. As we enter the Final Dog Days, the intense heat is nearing its end, and everyone's main concern is whether the weather will also become cooler accordingly.
On August 7th, the Beginning of Autumn solar term arrives! The gaps between fingers are too wide, time is too thin. Although it may still be hot in many places for a while, the prelude to the "poetic autumn" has already begun. In a daze, one can't help but sigh: time really flies. In early autumn, the wind is a gentle breeze, the scenery is bright, the time is frosty, and the trees are sparse. It is suitable for climbing heights, watching the sea, and gazing into the distance. May you feel comfortable and peaceful, and live your days vividly through the changing solar terms.
