As an important instrument, understanding the structural principle and component structure of a cam indexer is crucial. This not only extends the instrument's lifespan but also reduces the occurrence of malfunctions, ensuring its normal operation.
Generally, operators understand from the cam indexer structure that the indexing cam installed in the input shaft connects to the output turret. The cam rollers, radially embedded in the circumference of the output turret, make linear contact with the cam's tapered support ribs on their respective inclined surfaces. The tapered support ribs usually contact two or three cam rollers so that the rotation of the input shaft can be evenly transmitted to the output shaft. When the input shaft rotates, the cam rollers rotate the output turret according to a given displacement curve while rolling along the inclined surface of the ribs. If there is any roughness between the cam surface of the tapered support rib and the cam roller, the indexer will be damaged. Adjusting the distance between the shafts can eliminate rotational irregularities. In the area where the ribs and the cam end faces are balanced, i.e., within the static range, the rollers engage their shafts, but the output turret itself does not rotate. The cam roller and cam's elastic region can be approached by adjusting the preload, thereby strengthening the rigidity of the indexer. Its structure and function are the combined performance of the indexing cam and cam roller, enabling high-speed operation.
It has many component structures, such as the indexing cam, which is a cam with a groove cut into the surface of a cylindrical solid and fixed to the input shaft. The output turret is attached to the output shaft and is rotated by the indexing cam via the rollers embedded radially within it. Its accuracy is a key factor in maintaining the precision of the indexer. The input shaft rotation angle is required to perform a single indexing movement; the larger the angle, the smoother the movement. When the output shaft is fixed, the angle of rotation of the input shaft is the stop angle, which sums to 360 degrees with the drive angle. When the tapered rib is located on the circumference of the tapered support rib, the tapered support rib is between the cam grooves and makes linear contact with the circumference of the cam roller. The number of stops is the number of stops for each rotation of the output shaft. The precisely designed cam roller bearings are designed to withstand heavy loads. The input shaft of the cam indexer is rotatable. A large torque can be applied to the output shaft in a fixed position. If the applied torque exceeds this value, the indexer will be damaged.
