The motor is the driving source of the indexing mechanism. During assembly and use with the indexing mechanism, it achieves the function of intermittent start and stop. Therefore, in a running automated system, frequent start-stop braking actions are required for the motor. To ensure timely and accurate braking positioning and effectively eliminate the motor's inertia, brake motors are mostly used. In the driving source of the cam indexing mechanism, stepper motors are frequently used. So, how is the forward and reverse rotation of the stepper motor achieved? To understand this issue, one needs to know the stepper motor's rotation angle, speed, and direction of rotation, as well as the number, frequency, and energization sequence of the related input pulses.
The setting for forward rotation of the stepper motor can also be simply understood as the setting of the stepper motor's direction signal. The direction level signal DIR is used to control the rotation direction of the stepper motor. When this endpoint is high, the motor rotates in one direction; when this endpoint is low, the motor rotates in the other direction. The motor must be stopped before changing direction, and the direction change signal must be sent after the last CP pulse in the previous direction and before the first CP pulse in the next direction. When the control device (host computer) sends double pulses (i.e., positive and negative pulses) or the pulse signal amplitudes do not match, our signal module needs to be used to convert them into 5V single pulses (pulse: including direction).
1. When the input is a single pulse, the DIP switch on the signal module should be set to the "single pulse" position. The motor rotates when there is a pulse output. Changing the high and low levels of the direction signal can change the motor's rotation direction. Refer to the module manual for specific timing.
2. When the input is a double pulse, the DIP switch on the signal module should be set to the "double pulse: center" position. When a positive pulse is sent, the motor rotates forward; when a negative pulse is sent, the motor rotates backward. Positive and negative pulses cannot be sent simultaneously. Refer to the signal module manual for specific timing.
