Cam indexer Also known as an intermittent indexer, Cam indexer is a mechanism that achieves intermittent motion. It features high indexing accuracy, stable operation, large torque transmission, self-locking during positioning, compact structure, small size, low noise, good high-speed performance, and long lifespan. It is a spare slot and an ideal alternative to traditional mechanisms (such as wheel mechanisms, ratchet mechanisms, incomplete gear mechanisms, and pneumatic control mechanisms).
Cam indexer Working principle:
The indexing cam mounted on the input shaft is connected to the output turret, and the cam rollers radially embedded in the circumferential surface of the output turret make linear contact with the tapered support ribs of the cam on the corresponding inclined surfaces.
As the input shaft rotates, the cam rollers rotate the output turret according to a given displacement curve, while rolling along the slope of the ribs. In the region where the ribs and cam end faces are balanced, i.e., within the static range, the rollers are connected to their shafts, but the output turret itself does not rotate. The tapered support ribs usually contact two or three cam rollers to ensure that the rotation of the input shaft can be evenly transmitted to the output shaft. If there are uneven areas between the cam surface of the tapered support ribs and the cam rollers, the indexer will be damaged. By adjusting the distance between the shafts, the phenomenon of uneven rotation can be eliminated. The preload can be adjusted to approach the elastic region of the cam rollers and cam, thereby improving the rigidity of the indexer. Its structure and function represent the optimal performance of the combination of indexing cam and cam rollers, enabling high-speed operation.
