How to match a cam indexer with a motor The motor's speed is too high for direct use and needs a gearbox with a suitable speed ratio to control the speed. The speed ratio is calculated based on the driving angle, number of stations, turntable stop and indexing time. The selection of the cam indexer model and the gearbox speed ratio must be carefully considered. Inappropriate models and speed ratios can cause serious losses. Commonly used motors include ordinary geared speed-regulating motors, stepper motors, three-phase asynchronous motors, servo motors, motors with RV gearboxes, and hollow right-angle motors. Small specifications generally use speed-regulating motors. For motors that need frequent starts and stops, brakes can be added. For frequent starts and stops less than one second, do not add brakes, as this can affect the motor's lifespan. A motor with a brake clutch, or a stepper motor or servo motor, can be used instead. However, brake clutches are more expensive.

If the processing requirements on the indexing disc require signals to control rotation, a servo motor can be used to drive the cam indexer, and a PLC or other control system can be used to control the stop and start. An optical switch is installed on the input shaft of the indexer, and a time delay control is set in the PLC program. If customization is desired, a touch screen can be used to set the input. In actual use, the selection of the indexer must be carefully considered. An unsuitable model will threaten the stability and lifespan of the entire machine.

For applications requiring 360-degree arbitrary rotation and arbitrary indexing, a rotary servo motor is recommended. Indexers with arbitrary indexing have a built-in speed ratio of 1:12. They can be controlled by a servo motor for arbitrary indexing, commonly used in precision milling machines. This requires high processing accuracy of the indexer. Different motors are matched according to different equipment or installation space. The motor can be horizontally fixed to the table or fixed under the workbench.

During equipment operation, the motor rotates continuously, and the indexer operates according to the stop-and-go ratio of the indexer's own driving angle. For example, rotating for 1 second and stopping for 1 second, rotating the indexer driving angle by 180 degrees, or rotating for 1 second and stopping for 2 seconds, selecting a 120-degree driving angle. A speed-regulating motor without a brake, or a three-phase asynchronous motor, can be directly selected. Match the speed ratio appropriately. The installation method can use synchronous wheels, chain and sprocket connections, or extend the input shaft of the indexer and match a hollow right-angle motor or an RV gearbox plus a motor. Hollow right-angle motors are small but more expensive.
