How to select a cam indexer

Careful selection is necessary. Blindly purchasing may result in significant losses. It is recommended to consult the manufacturer to choose a suitable model, as under normal circumstances, with the correct model and standard usage, its lifespan can be close to 10 years!!!
Huilin HANDEX Cam Indexer Selection When selecting, according to the different sizes of the turntable diameter, torque, and load, the load has been gradually increased according to the model from small to large.
Main considerations before selection ：
1. Number of stations: The output shaft rotates one station for every rotation of the input shaft. The number of stops required for the output shaft to rotate 360° is the actual number of stations.
2. Diameter, thickness, material, and total weight of the workpiece on the turntable: Measure the diameter of the turntable and calculate the total weight of the turntable and workpiece. Refer to the indexer torque table; for excessively large and heavy turntables, a larger cam indexer model is required.
3. Indexing time and dwell time: The time it takes for the output shaft to rotate one station is the indexing time; the time from stop to start to the next station is the dwell time. (If the number of stations is small, the rotation distance is long, the dwell time is short, and the turntable is too heavy, the rotational inertia of the mechanical operation will increase. After starting, the centrifugal force generated during indexing will cause instability on the table.) Therefore, it is recommended to choose a larger model rather than a smaller one before selecting a model.
4. Installation method: The indexer can be installed horizontally or sideways. The motor is connected via a synchronous belt or directly connected.
5. Whether the motor is de-energized: If intermittent motion with stops is required, a suitable drive angle must be selected.
6. Drive angle: The inside of the input shaft is a cam with grooves around it. The straight sections of the grooves correspond to the stationary angle on the output shaft (after the motor is de-energized, the output shaft stops at this position for each station rotation). The curved sections are driven by the input shaft cam to drive the output shaft roller bearings, achieving output rotation. 360° is a full circle, and the number of degrees of the cam occupied by the curve is the drive angle. The larger the drive angle, the greater the load it can bear. It is recommended to choose 270° as the optimal choice, with the remaining 90° as the stationary angle.
The following are common types of indexers on the market and their characteristics:
Spindle type indexer (DS): The output shaft is a spindle, suitable for intermittent conveying belts, gear meshing, and other mechanisms as power sources.
Flange type indexer (DF): The output shaft is a flange. Suitable for heavy-duty rotary table fixing and various disc processing machinery.
Hollow flange type indexer (DFH): The output shaft is a flange with a hollow center. Suitable for power and pipe routing.
Platform desktop type cam indexer (DT): Can withstand large loads and vertical radial pressure. There is a raised fixed plate and a large hollow shaft at the end of its output shaft, better meeting the customer's requirements for central stillness.
Ultra-thin platform desktop type cam indexer (DA): Similar to the platform desktop type, suitable for conditions where the load is large but the volume is limited.
Parallel cam indexing mechanism (MRP): Can achieve small indexing (1 to 8 divisions) and large step output. Especially suitable for occasions where the number of stops in one cycle is small, such as various paper box die-cutting machines, fruit juice and jelly filling and molding machines, etc.
Heavy-duty cam indexing mechanism (MRY): Can achieve multiple indexing (4 to 200 divisions). Especially suitable for occasions requiring heavy loads, such as various glass machinery, electro-optical equipment, etc.
